International Taskforce on Women and ICTs

ITF Activities/Functions:

1./ Manifests its institutional presence by co-coordinating the Community of Expertise on Gender, a network convened by UN GAID that brings together motivated and capable actors to address specific, well-defined ICTD problems in a results-oriented manner and to identify and disseminate good practices.

Several members of the ITF STC are members of the leading organizations of the UN GAID:

  • Gloria Bonder, UNESCO Regional Chair on Women, Science and Technology in Latin America, Argentina is Member of the Steering Commitee of the UN GAID
  • Dorothy Okello, WOUGNET - Women of Uganda Network, Uganda  is Member of the UN GAID Strategy Council
  • Nancy Hafkin, PhD, USA is Member of the UN GAID High-level Panel of Advisers
  • Claudia Morrell, Executive Director MDWIT USA is Member of the UN GAID Champions Network
  • Dorothy Gordon, AITI-KACE - Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT is Member of the UN GAID Champions Network
  • Patrice Braun, Deputy Director, Centre for Regional Innovation and Competitiveness, University of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, ACPWT - Asia-Pacific Centre for Women & Technology Coordinator is Member of the UN GAID Champions Network

2./ Coordinates participation and/or representation at international events, nominates representatives to international organizations and contributes to international initiatives in ICT4D:
- GKP
- ICT4D conference – Lead Organization: MDWIT
- UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) – Lead Organization: WIGSAT

3./ Initiates and coordinates international projects, which are either independent of the GWT or Regional Centres activities (for example, gender mainstreaming) or in which ITF provides a framework for synthesising and comparing regional initiatives in the same project or sector (such as indicators).

In GWT projects in the areas above ITF experts/program leaders can serve as points of connection between the regions on overarching projects like indicators and/or can work with the regions to develop cross-regional activities in these areas.

The European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT) is proud to announce that Bev Hurley, member of the Executive group and Treasurer of the ECWT has been honoured on the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List with the ‘Queens Award for Enterprise Promotion’. The award is given to no more than 10 influential individuals each year, nationally.
