The 1st international Millennium Youth Camp (MY Camp) will be organized 6-13 June 2010 in Helsinki, Finland for 30 talented young students, 16 to 19 years old, keen on natural sciences, mathematics and technology. They will be selected and thus invited on the grounds of their applications.The target of the Camp is to network young people from all over the world together and with Finnish business life and top scientists and to increase the awareness of the Millennium Technology Prize. The Camp is free of charge, including also travelling, accommodation and dining.
The Millennium Youth Camp will take place at the same week, when the biannual Millennium Technology Prize Award winner will be announced. The participants may also take part in the ceremonies and meet the winner and the laureates during that week.
The multi-faceted MY Camp programme is based on three fundamental pillars - science, technology and nature - and includes lectures, workshops, visits to companies and universities and time for enjoyable social activities.
The main themes are within Environmental Science and Technology:
- climate change
- renewable natural resources, renewable energy, water
- Information and Communication Technology and digitalisation, and Applied Mathematics.
The application deadline is 30 November 2010. The selection of the participants is through a two stage application.The names of the successful applicants will be announced by 15 March 2010.
The organizer of the event is the Technology Academy of Finland in collaboration with: the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Finnish National Board of Education, the Academy of Finland, universities (University of Helsinki, Helsinki University of Technology), the Economic Information Office (TAT), the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries, Wihuri Foundation, the Association of Biology and Geography Teachers (BMOL), the Finnish Association of Teachers of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Informatics (MAOL), the Finnish Science Centre Heureka, Museum of Technology and Finnish companies Kemira, Nokia, UPM and Vaisala.
